How do measure YOUR success in the gym over the course of a year? How don’t you, if you’re Houston-based Lisa Sanders, who decided to compete in her first physique contest at The Branch Warren Classic in Houston at age 45.

“I started at 15% body fat and about 190 lbs in July 2012  and cut down to 165 lbs and 8% body fat by July 2013,” Lisa says.

By totally re-engineering her training, nutrition and supplementation over the past 12 months, Lisa was able to shave some 25 pounds off of her already curvaceous figure and cut her body fat very nearly in half

Lisa Says: As a former police officer, soldier in the Army and the mother of three children I’ve had many ups and downs with fitness.  A year ago when I moved back to Houston I decided I was going to get back to my healthiest, leanest and most comfortable weight.

I typically ate clean (4-5 times a day) trained at the gym 4-5 times a week over the last 20 years. But changed really kicked in when I decided to start working with a nutritionist. Went to 7 meals a day, added morning cardio and add strength training (1rep max) to my workouts.

My diet primarily consists of 4-6 oz of lean protein (chicken, turkey, fish, buffalo) ½ cup brown rice or sweet potatoes along with veggies. My favorite meal is breakfast oatmeal and egg whites with berries.

I keep shakes to a minimum and get most of my nutrition from real food.  I find that my body responds very well to real foods.

For supplements, started doubling up on my BCAA, added CLA, vitamins and increased my water intake.

At age 45, I decided to compete in my first bodybuilding event the Branch Warren in Houston July, 2013, in women’s physique. What a fun experience that was and I have decided I will be doing it again very soon.
