GUNG HAY FAT CHOY! Meaning ‘Have a prosperous and Happy New Year!’ // By Adriana Cesar

Nike SB is kicking of the Chinese New Year by celebrating 'The year of the Horse' with the release of NIKE SB CNY DUNK HIGH.  These red and gold Dunk High SB's was released this past Saturday, the 25th  which I was fortuned to cop and along with kicks Nike also launch a whole collection as seen below (photos) Check out the full collection of apparel here:

The design concept behind the Nike SB’s CNY DUNK HIGH symbolizes one of the most well-known traditions of Chinese New Year is the giving of red envelopes containing money. Adults present children with a narrow, red envelope adorned with gold symbols for wealth, a long-life and happiness. As a sign of respect, children should not open the envelope in front of their elders.  Also the color red is believed to drive away bad luck. Red is very prominent throughout the Chinese New Year; people wear red clothes and costumes, hang red decorations around their homes and children are given money in red envelopes.

Details // The shoes are red with gold accents; all red suede upper and red Swoosh. The Swoosh is given a gold underlay that matches the golden inner lining. The soles of the shoes are translucent outsole with sprinkle gold flakes which adds that lucky touch that definitely draw people in…it did me! The insoles have Chinese lettering symplizing newfound happiness, good fortune, wealth and longevity which will help to ensure your New Year!

Chinese New Year marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring and what a better way to bring on spring by sportin these rad kicks! So hurry double up your luck and start the New Year with style.
