PUMA Celebrates 45th Anniversary of it’s Suede W/ Limited Edition Kicks and Book

PUMA Celebrates 45th Anniversary of it’s Suede W/ Limited Edition Kicks and Book, Celebrating 45 Style Icons; Sports Stylist/Skater Cindy Whitehead Front and Center

By Adriana Cesar / The Urban Athletica

Puma released the ‘Sapphire’ Edition of their iconic suede kicks to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Suede Style, November 8. The sneaker giant also took the occasion to celebrate the style influence of 45 of the most influential style mavens in a very limited edition book.  "Limited" was the watchword of the celebration. Puma Suede Sapphire commissioned the most talented designers to work on this shoe, and ONLY 450 pairs were made and released last week.

Along with the release, PUMA published its limited edition book, which documents the Suede’s history. PUMA collaborated with Australia’s Acclaim Magazine to produce the book, titled ‘Stories of the PUMA Suede.’ The ‘XLV’ PUMA Book showcases 45 friends and brand ambassadors from all over the world, each contributing their own stories on the significance of the sneaker in their lives. I have the privilege to know one of the honorees personally, the Sports Stylist® 70's professional vert skateboarder Cindy Whitehead (View her post here). I met Cindy several years ago and we became fast friends and I was lucky enough to attend induction into the Smithsonian as a sports icon this past summer. The other honorees include artist Ron English, British rapper Professor Green, Woody of Sneaker Freaker, the Parisian duo Jay Smith and Greg Hervieux of BlackRainbow, and pro-skater Bucky Lasek.

And if you’re planning on getting your hands on this book…you may be waiting forever. Just 2,000 examples of the book were produced and they’ve all been spoken for.

Congratulations to Cindy from The Urban Athletica Family and myself!
